Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group has opened a cafe at the Whitney Museum of American Art featuring sandwiches from USHG’s chefs, including Verona residents Carmen Quagliata and Floyd Cardoz.
The cafe, called Sandwiched, opened with the Whitney Biennial last Thursday and will close in the fall once the permanent dining space on the museum’s lower level is renovated.
Quagliata, chef of Union Square Cafe, has contributed the Union Square Cafe Cured Salmon sandwich. Cardoz, who is the chef at Tabla, has put a Bombay Pita Panino on the menu. The chefs of Gramercy Tavern, Eleven Madison Park, Blue Smoke and Hudson Yards–the concession operator at the New York Mets’ Citi Field–have also contributed sandwiches.
Sandwiched is open Tuesday to Thursday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cafe and the Whitney are closed on Monday.
