MyVeronaNJ-CalendarIt’s a relatively light week for activity in Verona, except for tonight, December 21. Both the public schools and the school at Our Lady of the Lake break for the holidays after a half day on Wednesday

Today is all about basketball. The boy’s freshman team plays in the HBW gym against Lakeland at 4:15 p.m.; the boy’s varsity take on their varsity Lakeland counterparts in the VHS at 7. The girl’s varsity basketball team goes against Lacordaire in the VHS gym at 4, while the JV girls take on Scotch Plains in the other VHS gym at 5:30.

There’s also a town Council Meeting tonight in the upstairs room of the main civic center building at 600 Bloomfield Avenue. No agenda has been posted for the meeting. Garbage pickups are on their regular schedule except for Friday, with commingled recycling southside on Tuesday and northside on Thursday. There’s also a bulky/white goods collection southside on Wednesday.

Some houses of worship have given us their Christmas Eve and Christmas Day schedules. We’ll be adding more today, but if you don’t see the one you want, check the individual congregations in our Community blogroll for more information.

The only other sporting event is a Verona-Glen Ridge hockey team game against Bridgewater on Saturday at 8 p.m. This game will be played at the Clary Anderson arena in Montclair, which is near the Walnut Street train station. The holiday lights show at TurtleBack Zoo runs through January 4.

There’s more information on each event on our Calendar page. Please e-mail us your group’s events to help us make this page as useful and complete as possible.
