Darryl Haffner died peacefully at his home in North Caldwell on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 surrounded by his family.
Born on February 11, 1946 to Richard and Gladys Haffner in Milwaukee, Darryl attended the University of Wisconsin, graduating with a bachelor’s degree as a certified facilities engineer. Darryl served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam and is a Bronze Star recipient.
Darryl met Patricia while canoeing on a youth group trip, there beginning a loving marriage lasting 53 years.
Initially employed by Ambrosia Chocolate Company in Milwaukee, he was transferred to New Jersey as an engineer at Ambrosia’s Newark facility. Several years later, he was employed by P.F. Laboratories in Totowa. It just so happens that both of those companies were featured in Netflix specials. He retired in 2012.
A faithful member of the First Congregational Church of Verona, serving as president of the Church Council and the Property Committee chairperson. He was the first president of the Four Seasons Condo Association and was elected to the Board of AIPE (American Institute of Plant Engineers).
Darryl was extremely active in pickle ball, tennis, hiking, and enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. He was a master organizer and the go-to person for many.
Darryl is survived by his wife, Patricia (nee Wagner); his daughters, Jennifer Livelli (Gerard), Jessica Madonia (Vincent); his grandsons, Peyton Livelli and Ryan Livelli; his brother, Donald Haffner (Michele), and his nephew, Daniel Haffner.
Visitation will be at Prout Funeral Home, 370 Bloomfield Avenue, Verona on Saturday, February 10, from 1 to 3 p.m. Darryl will be provided military funeral honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the Wounded Warrior Project.
