Mr. Albert D. Auten died on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 in Fair Lawn, New Jersey. He was 85 years old.
Friends may gather at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit, 36 Gould Street, Verona on Friday, January 12 from 10 to 11 a.m. Services will begin at the church at 11 a.m., with burial at the Prospect Hill Cemetery in Caldwell to follow.
Born in Glen Ridge, Mr. Auten lived in the Caldwells and Clifton prior to moving to Verona in 2000. He was employed in the shipping and receiving department of Kearfott Industries Little Falls for 43 years, retiring in 2002.
Mr. Auten was proud to serve as a medic with the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1963 and remained in the Reserves until 1967. He was a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit in Verona, serving on the Maintenance Committee, Altar Guild, and as an usher and acolyte.
He was the husband of the late Shirley L. (nee Nystrom) Auten and is survived by his nephew, Martin J. Nystrom, his niece, Sharon L. Nystrom, seven great-nieces and nephews, and 13 great-great-nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit or the Verona Rescue Squad would be appreciated.
