Verona High School track and field competed in the NJSIAA state Sectionals this weekend, where they faced off against top schools from across the state. The athletes put their skills to the test, competing for area titles as well as a chance to advance to the NJSIAA Group championships next weekend on June 9 and 10.
VHS girls placed 2nd and VHS boys came in 4th. Their hard work and dedication paid off, with some impressive results. Among the many standout performances, Gwen Neale took first place in the girls 800m and Ian Zalewski took first place in the 1600m and 3200m. The girls relays took 1st place in 4x100m (Maile O’Neill, Gwen Neale, Marley Kramer, Sarah Knoetig) and 4x400m (Sarah Knoetig, Faith Brolly, Lucia Grant, Gwen Neale).
