To the Editor:

I am writing this letter in support of Christine McGrath’s re-election to Verona Town Council. I have lived on Derwent Avenue for 40 years. During Hurricane Ida, my home faced devasting flooding for the third time since I have lived here. I lost thousands of dollars of appliances, food and items from the lower level of my home.

Councilwoman Christine McGrath came by 2 days after Hurricane Ida to check in with me and other residents on the block. She listened to my frustrations and saw first-hand the devastation the entire block faced. After that time, Christine was very helpful as an advocate for the area and to relay information back to us. I know she pushed for the township to work with the County on a plan to lower Verona Lake in the future if we know we will have big rain events. She also worked hard to make sure Congresswoman Sherrill saw first-hand the damage and that resulted in an Army Corp of Engineers study of the Peckman being worked into a federal bill that was signed into law.

Christine updated residents often on the progress the Council was making to clean out debris from the Peckman, federal assistance available to residents and work that the Council was doing to improve the Peckman. I appreciate how much she is trying address these issues with the Peckman and prevent a future flood from happening to my property and others on my street.
