A 41-year-old employee of Quality Car Care was seriously injured late this afternoon when he was hit by a car that had veered off Bloomfield Avenue.
According to the Verona Police Department, the car wash employee was working on a vehicle in the front driveway area of the business when a vehicle traveling east on Bloomfield Avenue left the roadway and struck him. The employee was thrown about 50 feet after being struck.
After striking the worker, the vehicle hit two other vehicles and then a PSEG utility pole.
The Verona Rescue Squad transported the employee to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Paterson with serious injuries. The driver, a 75-year-old male from Bayville, was also taken to St. Josephs with moderate injuries.
The accident is under investigation by VPD Officers Joseph Pami and Brian McMahon, under the supervision of Sergeant Robert Juliano. The Verona Police Detective Bureau was also called out to the scene. The Essex County Prosecutors Office has been notified.
