The Eric Mortenson Scholarship Fund’s fall golf tournament will be played on Tuesday, October 11, and if you want to participate in the scholarship fundraiser, you’ve got to be registered by Wednesday. October 5.
The tournament is the primary fundraiser for the Eric Mortenson Memorial Scholarship, which is presented each year at Verona High School. In 2022, $6,000 was awarded to high school seniors. Some proceeds may also be used for other Verona sports programs.
Eric Mortenson, a 1961 graduate of Montclair High School, was a former director of the Verona Recreation Department who passed away from cancer in 2001. From 1971 when he was hired, to his death, he helped start dozens of recreation programs in Verona.
The tournament will be held at the Montclair Golf Club, and participants can bring bring up to three guests without the residency requirement. The cost is $150 per golfer, which includes golf, cart, dinner, beverages and gratuities.
The golf tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. Prizes will be awarded at dinner at the Verona Community Center Ballroom immediately following play.
