Stephen Bartell and Sophia Nunez, both Verona High School seniors, have both been named a National Merit Scholarship Program Commended Student.

The honor means that Bartell and Nunez scored among the top 50,000 students nationwide on the PSAT and National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT), which are taken by about 1.5 million students nationwide each year. The results are based on tests taken during their junior year.

While Commended Students do not continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships, some of these students do become candidates for special scholarships sponsored by corporations and businesses.
