Laurence Spooner obituary photoMr. Laurence P. Spooner, 69, died on July 9, 2022 in Neptune, N.J. surrounded by his loving family.

Visiting will be held in the Prout Funeral Home, 370 Bloomfield Ave., Verona on Thursday, July 14 from 4 to 7 p.m. A funeral mass will be offered in Our Lady of the Lake Church, Lakeside Ave., Verona on Friday at 10:30 a.m. Interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery will follow.

Born in Montclair, Mr. Spooner grew up and lived in Verona prior to moving to Toms River four years ago. He graduated from Our Lady of the Lake School and graduated from Verona High School in 1971.

He had a career in the hospitality industry, including the Baron Restaurant in Cedar Grove, the Red Fox Inn in East Hanover and Mickeys Night Club in Belleville.

Mr. Spooner was a faithful member of Our Lady of the Lake Parish.

Mr. Spooner was predeceased by his parents, William B. Spooner, III and Margaret “Peggy” (nee Ennis) Spooner; his sister, Rosellen Dowd; his brothers, Thomas G. Spooner and William B. Spooner, IV; and his brothers-in-law, Karl Saks and Alexis DeJesus.

He is survived by his children, Megan Russell (Mark) and Lauren Spooner; sisters, Peggy DeJesus, Wendy Saks and Nancy-Sue Spooner and his brothers, Richard B., David J. and Mark C. Spooner. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ashley, Brent and Carolyn.

In his memory, contributions to Disabled American Veterans or the Shriners Hospital for Children would be greatly appreciated.
