The Verona Chapter of UNICO National, America’s largest Italian American service organization, was founded in 1970. Since that time the organization has sponsored many events and has donated thousands of dollars to multiple charities. UNICO Verona is once again sponsoring scholarships for graduating seniors who reside within Verona. Six students will be honored in 2022 and for a complete list of scholarships, criteria and the application visit the Chapter’s website. The deadline for submissions is Friday, May 13. (The 2019 scholarship recipients are pictured above.)

UNICO Verona would have celebrated its 50th Anniversary in October 2020; however, like many things that year, the event was postponed. On Friday, May 20, from 6 to 11 p.m. the Chapter is inviting the entire community to join as they honor the memory of two long-time Verona residents: John Alati and Pat Filoso. Alati was a former UNICO National president and Chapter president and most recently UNICO Foundation president. Pat Filoso, known for owning Hillcrest Farms, was a dedicated supporter of the Chapter and a sponsor of the Labor Day 5-K Race for decades.

Also being celebrated at the 50th Anniversary Party to be held at the Richfield Regency, 420 Bloomfield Avenue, Verona will be the first three women inducted into the Chapter: Linda-Gail Alati, Nicki Carpinelli and Nancy Magrans, who mark 25 years as members. Deadline to reserve a seat for the dinner event is Friday, May 13. Click here for complete details.

UNICO’s motto “Service Above Self” leads all that members do. Verona Chapter meetings take place typically on the 4th Wednesday of the month 6:30 p.m. at Avenue Bistro, 558 Bloomfield Avenue. For additional information email [email protected]
