Verona High School football fell to Newton 56-12 in the North Jersey Section 2, Group 2 playoffs Friday night in Newton.

The first quarter ended with Verona, the #7 seed, down 35-0, and it wasn’t until well into the second that Cael Zebrowski connected with Joey Petro to finally get Verona on the board. But the kick was blocked.

Newton, the #2 seed, piled on two more TDs before Verona could score again on a Zebrowski pass to Petro, but that kick failed as well.

Verona ended 2021 with a 4-5 record and was 3-3 in conference. Despite that, Zebrowski was able to break every major record for a VHS quarterback, records that had gone unchallenged for 20 years.
