There have been five new cases of COVID-19 reported among Verona schools in the past two days, according to emails from Superintendent Dr. Rui Dionisio.

Yesterday there was one case each at H.B. Whitehorne Middle School and Brookdale, and one case among an individual identified only as “district personnel.” Today, there were two new cases at Verona High School. Dr. Dionisio’s emails said the Montclair Health Department is in the process of notifying anyone who was a close contact of the positive individuals.

As of today, there have been 630 positive cases of COVID-19 in Verona since Essex County began keeping statistics last March. Today’s total is an increase of 31.5% over the month of January.

Essex County will hold its usual free testing for COVID-19 at three sites next week:

  • Tuesday, February 2, 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., Essex County Hall of Records Complex, Employee Parking Deck, 50 West Market Street, Newark
  • Thursday, February 4, 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., Essex County Department of Public Works, 99 West Bradford Avenue, Cedar Grove
