The Verona Field Hockey Parents Association (VFHPA) is conducting a shoe drive fundraiser to raise funds to support the Verona High School girls field hockey team.
Anyone can help by donating gently worn, used, and new shoes by contacting a member of the team or Stacey Perry. VFHPA will earn funds based on the total weight of the pairs of gently worn, used and new shoes collected, as Funds2Orgs will issue a check for the collected shoes.
All donated shoes will then be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network of micro-enterprise (small business) partners. Funds2Orgsworks with micro-entrepreneurs in helping them create, maintain, and grow small businesses in developing countries where economic opportunity and jobs are limited. Proceeds from the sales of the shoes collected in shoe drive fundraisers are used to feed, clothe, and house their families.
The field hockey team is currently in its second year as a fully pay-to-play sport and it was making great strides in its fundraisers until COVID-19 hit. The pandemic affected the type of fundraising that most high school teams participate in, the VFHPA needed to think out of the box.
“The team is excited about their shoe drive,” Perry says. “They know that most people have extra shoes in their closets they would like to donate to people that could use them. By doing so, we raise money for VHS field hockey, and we have the chance to help families in developing nations who need economic opportunities. It’s a win-win for everyone.” As of Sunday, the team had collected 111 pairs of shoes.
If you have shoes to donate, give them to a member of the field hockey team or contact Stacey Perry at [email protected] to arrange a pickup.
