Mrs. Esmeralda Armijos (nee Borja), 90, died on October 21, 2020 at her home in Verona. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Born in Jipijapa, Ecuador and raised in Guayaquil, Ecuador, Mrs. Armijos emigrated to the United States in 1961. She moved to Verona in 1967 where she lovingly raised her family. Mrs. Armijos attended the Brookdale Baptist Church in Bloomfield and was an active member of the Verona Senior Citizens Club.

Always active and ready to dance, Mrs. Armijos enjoyed life to the fullest. Her children and grandchildren will cherish their memories of spending time with their mother, “Abuela”, eating rice and beans around the dining room table, power walking the Willowbrook Mall, swimming laps at the Verona Pool and slaying on the tennis courts.

Mrs. Armijos was predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Dr. Samuel R. Armijos; her siblings, Carlos, Juan, Carlotta, Judith, Edith and Rosa; and her son-in-law, Rey W. Bulmer.

She is survived by her children, Grace Wisse, son-in-law Mark Wisse, Ruth Bulmer and Samuel J. Armijos, daughter-in-law Miriam B. Armijos; grandchildren, Yvonne and husband Evan Grimme, Joshua and wife Tori Wisse, Jessica, Rachael and fiancé Bryan Cipolla, Raleigh, Jay and Kay; great-grandchildren, Olivia and Chase; and her sister, Ligia Obando.
