Recycle Your Takeout Containers To Help Feed The Homeless

If you’ve amassed a lot of takeout containers from supporting Verona restaurants during the pandemic, Tracey Hill has a great idea for using them to help someone else.

Hill is asking people to drop off empty, washed containers at her business, Academy Apparel, on Friday, April 24 from noon to 4 p.m. She will bring them down to the Unitarian Universalist church in Montclair, where they will be used to package meals for the homeless. The Unitarian Universalist church is one of the congregations participating in Montclair Emergency Services for the Homeless. MESH works with houses of worship and other community members to provide a nutritious evening meal, six days a week, to needy adults and families in Montclair and surrounding towns.

Hill says you can drop your containers inside the door at Academy Apparel, which is located at 5 Fairview Avenue just off Bloomfield Avenue. Alternatively, you can call her 862-277-4139 and she will come out and collect them curbside. She asks only that you run your containers through the dishwasher first and that each container has a lid that fits.

One final note: Academy Apparel will donate 10% of any online purchases made this week to MESH.
