The Verona High School girls tennis team is off to a fast start: three matches, three wins.
On Tuesday, the team defeated Columbia High School 3-2 with wins by 2nd singles Ashley Baumgard over Lexi Sachs 6-2, 7-5 and 3rd singles Sara Sexton over Gabby Redfern 6-2, 6-3. Verona’s 2nd doubles team of Gillian O’Donnell and Emma Derderian defeated Abby Ratner and Fredrica Ravix 6-2, 6-2.
The Lady Hillbillies opened the season on September 5 with a 5-0 sweep of Cedar Grove. In addition to Baumgard, Sexton and the 2nd doubles team, Kylee Gallagher won at 1st singles, and Brooke Anquillare and Claire Jackson won at first doubles.
On September 9, the Verona girls had a 4-1 win over Golda Och Academy. The winning 2nd doubles team that day was Paige Hensal and Emma Ramsthaler, who defeated Grace Saperstein and Liat Cohen 6-0, 6-0.
The girls travel to Bloomfield on Wednesday, September 11 for a 4 p.m. start.
