On Thursday, February 8, students at Forest Avenue School spent the day in their pajamas! Second grade teacher Sarah Conklin and Media Specialist Elissa Freda organized the Pajamas for Progeria Day fundraiser, which collected $750.31 for Team Zoey and the Progeria Research Foundation. Donations were collected to help fund research for a cure and provide treatment to kids with Progeria.
The students enjoyed reading Dr. Seuss books together in their pajamas along with a special visit from the Cat in the Hat, thanks to the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA).
Now a Forest Avenue student, Zoey Penny was just a toddler when she was diagnosed with Progeria, a disease that causes rapid aging. A group of volunteers created Team Zoey to raise money for the Progeria Research Foundation by holding an annual Thanksgiving weekend race in Verona Park, golf outings and more.
