St. Peter’s Prep graduated eight Verona residents at its 139th commencement on Saturday, June 3, conferring academic awards on several of the young men.
David Biron, Kyle Carlee, Owen Freeman, Daniel Liggio, Christopher Lonergan, Michael Nulty, James Robbins and John Walsh were among the 226 members of the Prep class of 2017.
Liggio, a member of SPP’s National Honor Society and Foreign Language Society, was graduated magna cum laude, which is awarded to students with a GPA of 4.0 or better. Carlee and Lonergan, also both National Honor Society members, were graduated cum laude, a distinction for students with GPAs of 3.7 or better. Lonergan was also a member of the Foreign Language Society and Carlee was awarded SPP’s Silver academic medal for Latin. Biron, a member of SPP’s Foreign Language Honor Society, was awarded its Gold academic medal for German.
Nulty and Freeman will attend the University of Pittsburgh this fall. Freeman is the grandson of the late Edward J. Mahoney, Prep class of 1948. Liggio will attend Notre Dame University while Carlee and Lonergan will head to Pennsylvania to attend Gettysburg College and Bucknell University, respectively. Walsh will attend the University of Dayton, while Robbins is going to St. Louis University. Biron will travel the furthest from Verona: He is headed to Germany to RWTH Aachen University, a research university located near the German border with Belgium.
