Ashley Takes 800M Crown At Sectionals Amid Strong VHS Showing

The Verona High School girls track team had another strong performance in the State Sectional Championships at Randolph High School this past weekend, with Kate Ashley becoming the State Sectional 800m champion with a time of 2:19.

Ashley also got second in the 400m, with a 58.7 clocking, and ran anchor for Verona’s 4 x 100m & 4 x 400m relays. Carly Waterman was second in shot put with a toss of 35’ 2 1/2” while Kelly Petrino was third in pole vault at 8’6” and Erin Petrino was fifth with a jump of 8’.

All of the Verona relays also qualified to move on to the State Group Championships at Egg Harbor next weekend. The 4 x 800m relay consisting of Brianna Rigney, Julia DiGeronimo, Karishma Parekh and Kathleen Nagy took fourth with a time of 10:35.

The quartet of Zoie Petronzo, Francesca Valle, Olivia Fiore and Ashley took sixth in the 4 x 100m at 52.28. The day ended with Verona’s 4 x 400m relay team of Fiore, Rigney, Nagy and Ashley taking fifth with a time of 4:17.
