Last Tuesday, Rutgers University held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the training complex named in honor of its former long-time baseball coach, Fred Hill. A resident of Verona for four decades, Hill served as RU’s coach from 1984 to 2014, amassing 1,089 wins in the process.
Hill was joined at the ribbon-cutting ceremony by many members of his family and threw out the first pitch with son Jim Hill (below), founder of the Fred Hill Sports Academy in Verona.
The 22,500-square-foot Rutgers facility, which was financed through private donations, has six batting cages, pitching machines and a turfed infield.
