Joanna Breitenbach, one of three candidates for the two seats open in the November 3 Board of Education election, has withdrawn from the race.

She explained her decision in a letter read at the Board of Education meeting tonight:

Dear Verona Residents,

It is with great regret that I announce I am no longer able to actively continue my campaign bid for the Verona Board of Education.

Presently, my family requires 100% of my focus and I must make them a priority.

It would be unjust to this body and to our community if I were not able to devote 100% focus as a member of the Board of Education.

This was a very difficult decision for me. Serving our community is a great passion of mine and I look forward to doing so in the future. However, at this time it is important that I focus on my family.

I’d like to thank my family, friends and supporters that have helped me through this process. Your love and support have made this very difficult decision manageable.

I wish Mrs. Bernardino and Mr. Quattrocchi success in their bids for seats on the Verona Board of Education.

With Gratitude,
Joanna Breitenbach

As a result, the Verona Conference of SCA’s (School Community Association) has let us know that it is canceling the Candidates Forum that it had scheduled for Wednesday, October 21.

John Quattrocchi and Michele Bernardino remain in the race. BOE business administrator Cheryl Nardino noted at the meeting that because of the late date of the withdrawal, Breitenbach’s name would still be on the ballot. If Breitenbach received enough votes to win a seat, she would have to submit a letter to the BOE indicating that she could not serve.
