For the last few years, Thanksgiving time has meant not only turkey and football games in Verona, but a 5k race and fun run to raise money to battle an unusual childhood disease, progeria.
Zoey Penny of Verona was just a toddler when she was diagnosed with the rapid aging disease. A group of volunteers has created Team Zoey to hold the “Turkey Trot” races in Verona Park, golf outings and more to raise money for the Progeria Research Foundation.
Registration has just opened for this year’s Turkey Trot, which will be held on Saturday, November 28, beginning at 9:30 a.m. You can register for either the 5K or fun run here. You can learn more about Team Zoey on its Web site.
Here’s a video of the 2015 races to get you inspired.
