MyVeronaNJ-Senior-Art-ShowEssex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. invites all non-professional and professional senior citizen artists residing in Essex County to participate in the 2014 Essex County Senior Citizens Juried Art Show and Exhibition in August. All senior artists are strongly encouraged to submit their artwork by Thursday, August 7. Admission to the Senior Citizen Art Show is free.

Senior citizens must be at least 60 years old and a resident of Essex County to participate. Senior citizens with professional status must have sold their art through commercial channels, have had their work exhibited in a professional gallery or held professional membership in a guild or association. Seniors with non-professional status do not meet any of the above criteria.

Awards will be presented in the following categories, without exceptions: oil, acrylic, watercolor/gouache, print, pastel, drawing, mixed media/collage/assemblage, photography, computer imagery, sculpture or craft. First place winners will be eligible to participate in the New Jersey Senior Art Contest.

Seniors can submit two entries of original artwork that were completed within the last three years. Artwork must be “show ready,” which means it should be matted, mounted or framed, with screw eyes and wire attached. Art cannot be larger than 36 inches and no smaller than 11 inches in any dimension, including matting and outer edge frame dimension. Sculptures or 3-D crafts cannot exceed 18 inches in any dimension, including the base. Any entry with a value exceeding $400 must have private insurance.

All artwork must be clearly labeled with the following information: the artist’s name, address, title of work, medium, date created, size, professional or non-professional status, and approximate value of the painting, with the name of the insurance company if it is privately insured. Labels will be provided to artists during drop-off at the Essex County Hospital Center. All entries must be delivered to the Essex County Hospital Center, 204 Grove Avenue, Cedar Grove, on Thursday, August 7 between 10 a.m. and noon.

The art exhibit runs from Friday, August 8 to Tuesday, September 2, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 to 7 p.m. at the Essex County Hospital Center. The awards ceremony is Wednesday, August 27, at 10 a.m. at the Hospital Center.
