Vacant land for new residential construction is a near impossibility in Verona and surrounding towns. But a half-acre lot has come on the market this weekend and even though there is a structure on the property now, it is being marketed as vacant land. What’s more, 42 Durrell Street is located just west of the lots where Fredco Properties is building five new single-family homes, and across the street from the site of the former Bahr Lumber, where Lennar has approval to build 33 townhouses.

We’d be surprised if this new listing stays active for long.

  1. I know this is an old post (and that piece of land is still for sale), but I’m curious about the (parking) lot next to it directly across the street from the townhouses. Is there any plan for that?

I’d love to see it turned into a small park/playground since there’s a lot of children in the area and it’s right off the trail which would connect it to the larger park Cedar Grove is building where the asylum used to be. More realistically, I feel it will probably remain a parking lot for either the trail or the townhouses eventually. Any information on what’s planned for this would be great. Thanks!

  2. Mike, the lot has been approved to be subdivided into potentially four new house lots, but we haven’t seen any construction there. The construction cannot encroach on the West Essex trail, though the work now being done on the old asylum state has destroyed some of the offshoot trails that have been developed over the years.
