The Verona High School boys varsity cross-country team was undefeated in dual meets (12-0) and won the Colonial Division Championship on Tuesday, October 8, at Branch Brook Park.
Team members pictured above (l-r) are Brett Newell, Jim Cuddihy, Ryan Ramsthaler, Pat Cummings, Matt Carroll, Chris Fuery, Joseph Volpe, and Coach Laura Palmerezzi (seated in front).
The same day, the Verona girls cross-country team completed their 2013 Liberty Conference competition at Branch Brook Park. The girls were undefeated in weekly dual meet competition with a record of 10-0 and thus awarded a Liberty Conference Championship plaque. The girls were second at the Conference championship meet behind first place Columbia High School.
The team was led each week by co-captain Melanie Egan who proved to be one of the most outstanding runners in Verona’s conference. A strong Verona core of runners followed Egan each week to the finish line. This very competitive group included co-captain Sarah Conboy, junior Amanda Flores, sophomores Julia Capuano, Emily Petermann and Gabi Horton, and freshman Ava Anderson.
