Two instances of identity theft have been investigated by the Verona Police Department in recent days.
Jun 06, 2013 6:01 PM – Officer Page Parsels took a report of a fraud from a Hillwood Terrace resident. The resident reported that she had received a notification from the Social Security Administration thanking her for using their online services. She contacted Social Security as she had not used any online services and discovered that someone had opened an online account and rerouted her checks to a different bank account. Social Security canceled the transaction. The resident was provided with identity theft information.
Jun 06, 2013 2:56 PM – Officer Steve Young took a report of a fraud from a Woodland Avenue resident. The resident reported that she received a letter from Lending Club alerting her to a loan application that was made in her name. The resident advised the company that she had not submitted the application and the company canceled the request. The resident was provided with identity theft information.
Any individual named in these reports is presumed innocent until a decision is rendered by the courts.
