The Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, May 14, will feature a presentation by French and Parello Associates on the testing results of the upper football field at Verona High School.
A hole opened on the field in August, forcing Verona to move all home football games to the lower field. A scan by ground-penetrating radar in September identified three problem spots, but in October a second hole opened that had not been flagged in the scan. Verona has spent roughly $20,000 scanning and testing the upper field. Once part of a large orphanage complex in the 1800s, the field was expanded in the late 1970s with a variety of landfill materials.
The field has been closed to all uses since October. In late winter, soil samples were taken at seven sites, all of which are now surrounded by orange plastic fencing.
The meeting will be held in the Media Center at VHS beginning at 8 p.m. It is free and open to the public.
