Track Trio Advances To Meet Of Champions

Track-StockGabriela Mercurio, Melanie Egan and Julia Ashley have qualified to compete at the Meet of Champions on Saturday, February 23 at the Bennett Center in Toms River.

Each placed in the top six of their respected events at the State Group Track & Field Championships on Saturday, which allows them to move on to the Meet of Champions. Mercurio had her personal best jump in pole vault of nine feet, which got her a fourth place finish. Ashley placed fourth in the 400m and won the group title in the 800m.

Egan put the finishing touches on the day with a fourth place in the 3200m with a time of 11:25, breaking the current Verona High School record by 25 seconds.
