Last week, Forest Avenue School students participated in the assembly and workshop “Dancin’ with the Honeybees”, sponsored by the SCA. The program was presented by Cliff Sunflower, a master beekeeper, environmental educator and performer. “Dancin’ with the Honeybees” uses storytelling, puppetry, music, dance and participatory theater to teach about ecology and how to save honeybees, which play a main role in the production of food.

The follow-up “Bee Touch Me Museum” program reinforced the science concepts presented in the main assembly. The students were divided into workshop groups to visit up close with an observation hive of bees, panels from man-made hives heavy with honey and ready to harvest and other aspects of a honeybee hive. All students and teachers made beeswax candles to take home.
