Editor –

After 8 months the Board of Adjustment will finally be acting on variances to build a commercial/residential building on property at 176-200 Bloomfield Ave.

This application will have a very negative impact on all residents of Verona. First of all there is no lack of available commercial or residential property in Verona. Currently, the VJ Plaza just East of this site has two vacancies as does the Acura building just next door.

The building will contain 14 residential units with the potential for adding 28 or more children to the Laning Ave school. Who will have to pay to expand the school to accommodate these additional children? All the residents of Verona in their taxes. If you have children in Laning, class size will have to be increased. Do you feel that your child’s class is too large now? If approved, class size will have to be increased.

Do you have children that participate in activities at Everett Field? Well in order to build on this site 90 days of blasting will be required. What affect will this blasting have on the surrounding environment? Maybe your child has asthma or another allergy. How will the air quality caused by this blasting affect your child? Will he or she be able to continue to participate in these recreational activities? How about parking? Do you drive to Everett Field? Where do you park? Do you park on Westview Rd? With traffic exiting this proposed site, what affect do you think it will have on your access to Everrett Field?

Do you use Bloomfield Ave at all? Blasting will necessitate the closing of Bloomfield Ave during the period of blasting – 90 days!
One of Verona’s oldest and most historical homes rests on this property. The applicant intends to destroy this home.

For all of the reasons cited above, I ask every Verona resident to attend the special Board of Adjustment meeting on Monday February 11, 2013 at the Community Center and urge the Board to deny this application.
