The accident took out the utility pole and a street lamp just west of Thee Tobacco Store. PSE&G is now replacing the pole.

The Verona Police have sent out an alert that an accident in the center of town has reduced Bloomfield Avenue  to one lane in each direction from Lakeside up the hill to Park Avenue –where Corner Store Deli and Hillcrest Farms are located.

Expect delays and, if possible, find another route. Some DeCamp buses are being re-routed onto Grove Avenue.

Police say its going to take several hours to get traffic back to normal.

UPDATE: Police say the accident happened before 2 a.m. this morning when a car traveling westbound on Bloomfield Avenue crossed over to the eastbound side and hit the utility pole and light pole. The male driver was transported to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center, but police say his injuries did not appear to be serious. The accident is still under investigation.
