Record Pace At Essex Relays

The Verona High School girls track and field team set a new VHS record in the distance medley at the Essex County Relay Championships on Sunday.

In the first race of the day, the team of Julia Ashley, Sarah Conboy, Kelsey Attamante and Melanie Egan turned in a time of 12:55, breaking the time of 13:24 set in 2010 and earning a third-place finish. This same quartet of runners returned later in the morning to get a second place finish in 3200m relay with a time of 10:07.

The team of Laura Williams, Jessica Williams, Sarah Conboy and Marybeth Grund took fifth place in the shuttle high hurdles with a time of 37.5, while Jasmine Okafor and Diana Moczula captured sixth place in the shot-put relay with a combined throw of 57′ 2″.

Colleen Farrell, Jordan Seubert, Angel Barkley and Julia Ashley ran a 1:55 in the 800m relay, while Emilia Frizzi, Lauren Ednie, Angel Barkley and Amanda Flores ran a 4:45 in the sprint medley.

The Verona girls team finished in sixth place overall in a field of 22 teams.
