Wrestlers Victorious In Edison Tournament

The Verona High School wrestling team opened its season at the nine-team Edison Classic today and took home a second-place trophy for its efforts.

Several of the varsity grapplers took first place in their weight class. Paul Scully defeated Kevin Del Rio of Edison High School 18-1 at 126 pounds and 170-pounder Joe Cordasco pinned Dakota Smith of Carteret High School at the 3:44 mark. At 182 pounds, Frank Greco defeated Dillon Stambaugh of Red Bank Regional High School 3-1 in overtime.

Joe Ballentyne finished second to Rocco Genova of Belleville High School in the 106-pound group, while Nick Esposito finished second to Alphonse Muoio of Red Bank Regional at 120 pounds. Quinn Cummings came away from the match with a third-place finish.

The boys are away at Columbia High School on Wednesday evening.
