The Verona Fire Department recently conducted a live burn drill at the Middlesex County Fire Academy.

The drill consisted of several different scenarios in one of the burn buildings under live fire situations. The Middlesex Academy burns so-called class A materials to simulate actual fire conditions,  making the drill as realistic as possible.

The photo to the right shows VFD Engine Co. #1 Captain Kenny Gerlach standing by as the fire rages.

The VFD also recently held a training exercise with the Cedar Grove Fire Department at Verona’s training facility on Commerce Court opposite the Recycling Center. The Verona and Cedar Grove fire departments work very closely together and try to drill together as much as possible.

In the photo below, firefighters from the two departments work on removing a role-playing victim from the building with the aerial ladder from Truck 12.
