The Verona Board of Education and Town Council will hold an unusual joint meeting tonight at the Verona Community Center, beginning at 7 p.m. Much of the meeting will be devoted to a discussion of services that are now, or could be, shared between the two bodies.
This means that we might hear more about what the Council and BOE will to to make sure that playing fields in Verona stay free of pesticides. Last month, it was discovered that pesticides had been used on the town field at Linn Drive. Verona’s schools are required, under the terms of a 2002 state law, to use Integrated Pest Management on all school property. IPM involves monitoring pests and acting on them only when they pose an active threat and generally not with chemical pesticides.
The superintendent, town manager and council members will also present the reports that each normally delivers to their respective meetings.
The meeting is free and open to the public, and there will be time for questions from the public at the end.
