Calvary Lutheran Church is having a carnival fundraiser on Saturday, May 19, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to raise funds for Team Zoey and the Progeria Research Foundation.
Progeria is a rare and fatal condition that produces rapid aging in children. Verona resident Zoey Penny has progeria. She is 2 1/2, but will face a life challenged by age-related problems. Her life expectancy is only 13 years. When Zoey Penny was diagnosed with progeria two years ago, her family formed TeamZoey.com, the New Jersey chapter of the Progeria Research Foundation, to raise money and awareness, so that PRF can achieve its mission to discover treatment and a cure for progeria.
The carnival will feature a dunk tank, clowns, food vendors and a bake sale. The rain date is June 2.
Team Zoey also is planning a big music benefit for Friday, May 18. A group called The Hit Men will be giving a concert of music from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s at the Preakness Hills Country Club in Wayne. Tickets are $150 per person, which includes dinner and the show, and all proceeds benefit the Progeria Research Foundation. You can buy your tickets here.
What a wonderful idea…sounds fun!
