Just as in 2011, the second round of the NJSIAA Public B tournament was a match between the Verona-Glen Ridge Hockey team and the team from Summit High School. But last night’s game didn’t end with the same result as the 2011 match-up: VGR fell 3-6, though aspects of the game bode well for next year’s team.

Freshman Jake Paganelli has been a strong scorer for VGR all season and, last night, he was once again the first to get on the boards, with an assist by Dylan DeCandia. Paganelli has scored 15 points this season, making him the second highest scorer for the team. DeCandia, a sophomore forward who is also from the Verona side of the two-school team, scored the second goal  of the game. DeCandia has 13 points to his credit this season.

But the second period belonged solely to Summit, as Jeff Wyckoff, Liam McLaughlin and Chris Zanelli scored. Matt Lander, a senior co-captain from Glen Ridge, got VGR back on the scoreboard in the third period, with an assist by fellow co-captain Chris Lapone from Verona.

VGR ends the season with a 15-9-3 record.
