Obituaries: John J. Byrne

Mr. John J. Byrne, 75, died on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 in Livingston. A funeral mass will be offered in Our Lady of the Holy Angels Church, Little Falls, on Saturday, February 25 at 10 a.m. Visiting in the Prout Funeral Home, 370 Bloomfield Avenue, Verona on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Born in Kilcar, County Donegal, Ireland, Mr. Byrne came to the U.S. in 1957 and has lived in Cedar Grove for 40 years.

He was a Mechanic at the Passaic Valley Sewage Commission for 27 years. After he retired, Mr. Byrne served as a crossing guard on Morningside Road in Verona until this past December.

Mr. Byrne is the husband of the late Bridget, the father of Patrick J. Byrne and his wife, Susan; Dermot Byrne and his wife, Ariel; Christine DeVitto and her husband, Matthew. He is also survived by his sisters, Kathleen McAndrews and Mary Dorrian and 8 grandchildren.
