Obituaries: Valdemar ‘Walter Nicolajsen

Mr. Valdemar ‘Walter’ Nicolajsen, 103, died peacefully at home on Saturday, January 28, 2012. Services will be held in the Prout Funeral Home, 370 Bloomfield Avenue, Verona on Wednesday, February 1 at 11 a.m. Visiting hours on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

Born in Svendborg, Denmark, Mr. Nicolajsen came to the U.S. in 1928 and lived in Brooklyn and Jersey City prior to moving to Montclair in 1980.

He and his late wife Denise founded the Antique Star in Jersey City in 1964, moving the company to Montclair in 1972. Mr. Nicolajsen retired in 2005.

He is the husband of the late Denise S. Nicolajsen, the father of Lilian N. Yenko and her companion Daniel B. Snider, Will V. Nicolajsen and his companion Mona Torres and the grandfather of Jeremy J. Yenko and Alexandra A. Nicolajsen.

He was predeceased by his brothers Wickman and Jorgen. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Salvation Army or the Montclair Ambulance Unit would be appreciated.
