The Hillbilly wrestling squad took on Columbia High School at home on Wednesday night, and took away a solid 55-23 win for Verona.

Nick Esposito, wrestling at 106, got a 9-1 decision over Nathaniel Pham and sophomore Paul Scully scored a 2-1 decision over Khari Jarrett. Jake Quercia, at 120, had a win by forfeit, as did Brian Wagner (138), Joe Festa (220) and Joe McNally (285). Chris Virgadamo (132) was pinned by Avery Walker, and there were also losses for Franco Camerota (145), Mike DeSomma (145), Nick Longo (160) and Kyle Rosenberg (182).

The big wins of the evening belonged to Frankie Greco, Matt Misrendino and Joe Cordasco. Misrendino, wrestling at 152, pinned Edvard Larose in just 45 seconds. Cordasco (170) went the distance with Christopher Auriemma before pinning him at the 4:40 mark. As for Greco, the look in his eyes when he took to the mat should have told McDaniel Jeantus everything he would need to know about how the match would go. Greco got his pin in just 35 seconds.

The VHS wrestling team travels to East Orange on Friday afternoon.
