Julie Boyle is a freshman at the University of Delaware and she believes that donating blood is a great way to give back to the community. So during her winter break, the Verona native has organized a blood drive with New Jersey Blood Services. The blood drive will take place on Monday January 16, from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Commonwealth Club, which is located at 26 Northview Avenue in Montclair.
“Donating after the holidays is critical since the blood supply has taken a dip with people on vacation and high schools and colleges out of session,” Boyle says. “By donating, you are helping to ensure an adequate blood supply for patients who may need it.”
To give blood, you must be in generally good health, meet weight criteria, and be at least 17 years of age or 16 years of age with parental consent. Donors will have the option of giving a a so-called Alyx blood donation at this drive as well. It collects more red blood cells than an ordinary donation and you can learn more about it here. On the day of the blood drive, please remember to bring ID and have plenty to eat and drink.
If you would like to schedule a time to donate, please e-mail Boyle or call 1-800-933-2566 with questions.
The time of the event has changed to 4-8:30pm.
