The 2011 Verona Baseball & Softball League‘s Major League World Series will go down as one of the most exciting in recent years.
After losing in game one, the Lapels Dry Cleaning Giants rallied and defeated the UPRR LLC Yankees last night at Everett Field, 2-0, to force a third and deciding game tonight.
The Giants got all the runs they would need in the first inning, after Greg Marlo reached on an error and Mike Stanisci hit a towering home run to center field.
The Yankees threatened in the fourth, but after loading the bases, a tremendous double play thwarted the rally. Not to be outdone, the Yankees’ Michael Daggett pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the inning.
Closing pitching performances by the Yankees’ Colin Kiernan, and the Giants’ Chuck Cerele and C.J. Lavery, sealed the deal for a game 3. Tonight’s game is at 7:30 p.m. at Everett Field.
