Verona LIVE, a resource group for senior citizens in town, is hosting a presentation tonight for people who care for those seniors. It’s called “Sandwiches for the Sandwich Generation” and it takes place from 6-8 p.m. at the Verona Community Center.
The program, which is free, will provide caregivers with information on local agencies and organizations that can assist them. There will be a presentation by Wendy Sabin, a social worker at Jewish Family Service of MetroWest, on coping with stress, knowing when help is needed, how to ask for help and how to access resources.
Before and after the presentation, attendees will have an opportunity to visit a resource fair with representatives from close to 20 local providers including the Township of Verona, the Verona Police Department and Rescue Squad, Mountainside Hospital, Saint Barnabas Health Care Services, JFS, Jewish Vocational Service of MetroWest NJ (JVS) Caregiving Companions, the Alzheimer’s Association, and more. Caregivers will be able to learn about a wide array of services including transportation, telephone reassurance, caregiver support and mental health resources for older adults and their caregivers. Many of the providers will have applications and giveaways. And yes, there will also be a light dinner.
