James Wojtal Jr.'s Puppet Audrey for Montclair High School's Little Shop of Horrors
Audrey in progress last week.

Montclair High School’s School of Visual and Performing Arts is performing Little Shop of Horrors this weekend and next, but the star of the show may just well be something from Verona.

Audrey, the carnivorous plant that causes some…um… changes to the show’s cast, was designed and built by the MHS students with help from James Wojtal Jr. If you read our profile of Wojtal’s career as a puppet builder (he’s had a hand in Sesame Street, Bear In The Big Blue House and Avenue Q) you might remember that the first big theatrical puppet that Wojtal ever built was an Audrey for the production of Little Shop at Verona High School.

The MHS production is tonight, April 30, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, May 1 at 3 p.m. in the high school’s Little Theater, which is located at 141 Park Street. Show times next weekend are May 6 and 7 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, May 8at 3 p.m.. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students 18 and under at all performances.
