4th Grader Finishes Second In State Spelling Bee

Nicole Volpe won second place in the New Jersey state Spelling Bee held March 12 in New Brunswick.

Volpe, a fourth grader at F.N. Brown Elementary School, was one of 18 contestants at the bee, sponsored by the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs – Junior Membership. In addition to the second-place ribbon, she earned a $75 Visa gift card and a trophy.

Prior to competing at the State Spelling Bee, Volpe was among the top three winners of the Verona Junior Women’s Club Spelling Bee on February 5 and the Central Regional Spelling Bee on February 26.
