It was a nail-biter to the end! Everyone was clutching the edge of their seats! Wait…that was last week’s game against Nutley. Last night’s game could not have been more of the opposite.

Saturday night, the Verona-Glen Ridge Hockey team won 5-1 against the team they just barely beat last Friday night. Many thought this game was going to be just as exciting. Instead, it was an exercise in domination.

Not only did VGR triumph on the scoreboard, they battered Nutley’s goaltender with 36 shots. Nutley had 27 shots, and only one was let in by Matthew Brehne of Verona.

Alekos Polis and Matt Lander of Glen Ridge had two goals apiece, while Nick Martell, also of Glen Ridge, tacked another one on in the second.

Despite several last-minute penalties, VGR played a great game. They now sit atop their conference at 5-0-1.

VGR plays three games this week: Monday at 4:30 p.m. against West Orange, Thursday at 2:30 p.m. against Mountain Lakes and Sunday at 4:00 p.m. against West Morris Central. All games are at the Richard J. Codey Arena in West Orange.
