Happy Birthday To Us

A year ago, some of your friends and neighbors decided to take news about Verona into the 21st century. We set up a Web site, a Facebook page, a Twitter feed and a YouTube site and had a huge poster made at PIP Printing to introduce everyone at the 2009 Fair In The Square to MyVeronaNJ.com.

And then it snowed and the Fair was canceled.

So we e-mailed the site URL around to a few friends, along with a brief description of what we intended to do–or rather, what we thought we intended to do. And from that was born a Verona-based, community-driven news and information site that has, in the past 12 months, generated 1,523 stories, 1,000 Facebook fans, 52,790 unique visitors and more than 415,000 pageviews. We have regular readers from every corner of Verona, every town in New Jersey, every state in the U.S.–and beyond, including Verona, Italy. We’ve gotten comments from people who are in town every day–and people who haven’t lived here in 30 years.

Today is MyVeronaNJ.com’s first birthday and we’d like to thank you for the amazing gift of support that you have given us in the past year. Thank you for your stories, photos, videos and music, thank you for your comments and  your enthusiasm for our contests. Thanks for rediscovering Verona with us, and for cheering us on as much as you cheer on any of the dozens of sports teams in town. Thank you to our advertisers for believing that, through us, you will find the customers to grow your business through the recession.

Now get ready for 2011, Verona. MyVeronaNJ is going to get even better and bigger in the year ahead. Come see us at Fair In The Square today and we’ll tell about some of our plans.

Here are some highlights of our first year:
