The weather is getting cold, but spring sports are heating up. Registration for the Verona Baseball & Softball League‘s 2011 season will be held on Friday, November 19, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and on Saturday, November 20, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the annex building behind the Verona Community Center.
The VBSL’s program is open to boy and girls in kindergarten through 8th grade. K-Ball, for the youngest players, is done as a clinic on eight Saturdays. There is Tee Ball for first graders and Rookie League for second graders; the Rookie League program also includes basic skills sessions at the Fred Hill Sports Academy with professional trainers. Tee Ball and Rookie League are also eight-week programs.
Beginning with the third graders, the VBSL runs both a baseball and softball program. Those players receive a full uniform and play a 12 to 16 game schedule.
The fee for those in kindergarten is $60 and first grade is $80. The second grade program fee is $100 and for those in third through eighth grade, the fee is $125. Discounts are given to families with more than one child.
