The constant and consistent heat of mid- July gets to me. It’s the one time of summer when I think it’s actually better for my kids to spend a little time inside in the air conditioning. If they can have fun while doing that all the better. Yoga camp does just that.

We reported a few weeks ago that Grace Yoga in Verona offers kids classes. Those classes will be going on through the summer, but there is no “camp” option. If you are looking for a camp (rather than a class), there are a couple of options in neighboring Montclair.

Lotus Yoga offers a camp where kids participate in yoga postures, breathing, dance, music, storytelling, arts & crafts, and games. The camp runs Monday through Friday, from 1 to 5 p.m. during the weeks of July 5 and July 12. The cost for 1 week is $240 and for 2 weeks $425. Fees include a snack and materials. For more information call 973-783-5060. Space is limited to 15 students so call to reserve your spot.

Starseed Yoga and Wellness is offering a drumming and dance camp this week, June 28-July 2 (ages 5-8) and again July 5-9 (ages 9-12). Kids will learn about the origins of music and explore the natural flow of rhythms and simple music theory (all related to earth based beats, creative movement, and call and response games). For the drumming portion of this camp, participants will be working with the most basic ancient beats and hand drum strokes. The next portion will incorporate Creative Movement and draws from the innate nature of children to express themselves through inspired physical play. The camp goes from 3 to 6 p.m. and costs $199 for the week.
